Description
Manny is CRC's first autonomous robot, featuring facial recognition and sign recognition that allows him to not only seek out targets, but also follow the rules of the road. Once Manny identifies a target is within its range, he lifts his tusks and simultaneously drops his hammer, crushing the opponent. He's named after a character from the Ice Age franchise.
Design
Manny is driven by a Raspberry Pi microcontroller. While a motor drives his lifting tusks, a snail cam causes the hammer to drop as the opponent is raised off the ground. Manny sports front-wheel drive and the spirit of an underdog.
Trivia
- While he appreciates the entire franchise, Manny's favorite movie is Ice Age 3.
- Manny had short-lived careers as both a delivery robot and a professional Egyptian Rat Screw player.
- Manny survived a brain transplant, switching from an Arduino to a Raspberry Pi. This was primarily due to amnesia and short-term memory issues that prevented him from remmebering any code while using an Arduino.
- Manny was supposed to weigh 12lb, but only weights around 7.
- Manny has both big and mini counterparts, making him the robot with the greatest number of marketable plushies.
