Description

Lance, Sportsman's first competition-ready robot, is CRC's "adorable loveable roomba." Lance's main weapon is his lance -- used to flip opponents and disable them from a safe distance. Lance can also flip himself, giving him the ability to perform frontflips and backflips. He's quite the crowdpleaser!

Design

Lance is constructed using puzzle-fit HDPE pieces. Lance is fully symmetric -- except for the lance being mounted on one side -- and is completely invertible. Lance's drive system possesses four-wheel drive, and allows him to maneuver just as effectively on his back. Lance's driver uses a remote control to operate the robot. Once the enemy is within range of Lance's lance, the driver can use their experience and judgment to determine the best way to adjust the controller's joystick to engage the lance, maximize torque, and flip the enemy. This makes Lance a robot with a high driver skill ceiling.

• According to the Sportsman subteam in 2022, Lance's "super-strong lance" can "lift everything."
• Lance's lance was CRC's first water-jetted part.
• Lance was originally meant to have foam armor, which would indicate to drivers when and where an enemy attack connected and let them counter.
